CALLING ALL SCHOOLS! GET INVOLVED IN CONSERVATION ACTION, POLLINATOR AWARENESS & RUNNING FOR MONARCH BUTTERFLIES!
ABOUT THE MINI MONARCH ULTRA PROGRAM: In 2020, the Monarch Ultra is partnering with Monarch Nation and the Butterflyway Project to get schools involved in raising awareness of the need to protect monarchs and other species at risk. Running to raise awareness is a fun and healthy way to get youth outdoors and connect children with nature. Once a school registers for the Mini Monarch Ultra Program, we'll be tallying up kilometres run by schools across the country, aiming for a total of 4,300km - the distance monarch butterflies will travel on their way from Mexico this spring. We'll also be encouraging schools to engage in learning around monarchs and other species at risk using Monarch Nation's curriculum-linked resources. For schools registered in Peterborough, the Butterflyway Project has offered to provide a flat of native plants so that teachers and students can start a pollinator garden. All of us can make a difference. In 2019, aMini-MonarchUltra campaign was launched at Edmison Heights Public School in Peterborough, Ontario. 650 students participated and ran 6,300km collectively as a school in June. The students and teachers also planted pollinator gardens, organized educational workshops related to climate change & pollinator loss, and led a Pollinator & Climate Change Parade down the streets of Peterborough. Our aim is for this campaign to be replicated across schools in Canada, USA and Mexico in the next couple of years. The collective action adds up to urgently needed ecological and social change. Thank you for joining our international movement to raise awareness and take action to protect monarchs and other species at risk!
