INTRODUCING OUR NEW VIRTUAL 10KM EVENT FOR 2021
MONARCH ULTRA VIRTUAL 10KM:
Celebrate the wonder of the monarch migration by running, walking, biking or hiking 10km from anywhere in North America! In partnership with GottaRunRacing, the Monarch Ultra Virtual 10km is an exciting new event to support monarch butterflies through awareness building and physical activity. Participants can run, walk, hike, or bike 10km and be part of a larger movement that helps protect pollinator species and supports conservation work.

FUNDRAISING:
Each participant will have the opportunity to raise funds. Donations raised through the Virtual 10km will support Camp Kawartha, a non-profit organization offering nature education and environmental stewardship programs for youth. Running for a cause, conservation action and community spirit are the goals of the Monarch Ultra Virtual 10km!

ALMOST 200 PARTICIPANTS JOINED THE 10KM EVENT!
We'll add up the collective distance of all participants, with a goal of reaching 4,300km in total. This is the collective distance that monarch butterflies fly during their spring migration from central Mexico to southern Canada. In the spring, monarchs begin their journey back north, starting from the Cerro Pelon Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, and other sanctuaries in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico. It takes four to five generations of monarch butterflies to reach southern Ontario during the spring migration. We hope this symbolic virtual event will raise awareness about the epic migration of the monarch butterfly, while inviting runners from all across the continent to participate in this exciting adventure along with monarch butterflies!

MEDAL & SWAG:

Each participant will receive a beautiful monarch-inspired medal and buff designed by Jodi McNeill. Our double sided medal will feature a spectacular Monarch butterfly as well as the life cycle elements on the back side. You will also receive a numbered bib featuring the migration map and a one of a kind neck warmer (that can double as a face covering). Once you register, don't forget to share photos and videos of your accomplishments, and invite your friends and family to get involved as well! And if you see any monarchs while running, be sure to capture a photo of them and share them with us on social media!
