ZITACUARO SUMMIT: SEPTEMBER 10, 2022
We are very excited to host delegates from Mexico who are coming to Canada this fall! A new community event is in the works in Peterborough to welcome the Zitacuaro President Juan Antonio Ixtláhuac, and tourism and ecology ministers. The Zitacuaro Summit will take place on September 10th from 6:00-9:00pm at Market Hall. This event is an opportunity to learn more about how the community is protecting monarch butterflies, and how the monarch butterfly influences Zitacuaro Indigenous culture, including clothing, music, and traditions like the Day of the Dead. Zitacuaro is located at the foothills of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, and the community has already planted 200,000 trees in the forest sanctuaries to help protect this species at risk. The event includes a "Migration of Art" art display, a performance by Indigenous artists, and a presentation by Zitacuaro President Juan Antonio Ixtláhuac. |
